Well, I tried a couple this weekend, but had mechanicals both days.

But today I went back out and joined my usual Tues / Thurs group ride....very fast group ride, averaging 25+mph. touching 30+mph at some points. Fast, rotating paceline that is well organized.

I've had my first shot and I'm two weeks past it, so 80% immune according to the data. And since it was outside, I figured it was a low-risk endeavor.

My god it was great....I didn't realize how much I missed thos rides. Wasn't certain where my form was releative to the bunch, but I ws quickly in the rhythm, taking my turns and rolling along.

Rode the ~5 miles home by myself with a big stoopid grin on my face and I've been in a fantastic mood all day so far.

That's awesome. Such an amazing feeling when you're riding hard but being sucked along at a pace far faster than you could manage by yourself. The sounds of the tires, the whoosh of the spokes, etc. Ah, love it!! Combined with some exceptionally warm spring weather, doesn't get much better than that.

I still haven't experienced the dreaded 'sprinter's cough' yet this year. Need to go find a hard group ride to get actually shelled from.

That's Gurb-like speed!

Just busting 'yer chops

I'm looking forward to Saturday for the first group ride since, well, a long time ago

Nah, Gurb would cruise on his steel steed at 34mph without breaking a sweat. Nobody within 500 miles could stay on his wheel.

To the OP:
Thank you for that love letter to the joys of a precise, flowing, and high energy paceline. Hard to explain to those who have never experienced that version of bliss. We get it.

Like lsd, thank you Cosmic. I have to live this through you since I have no business spending time on wheels at speed. (A touch of wheels is a whole bunch more brain cells gone. I don't have many to spare.) And its been a long time but I haven't forgotten. There were three magic long tandem pulls I've latched onto at Cycle Oregon for a small more recent taste of the drug.

I did have a glorious ride today that reminded me of the old days. A 35 mile recovery ride on Jessica, 42 - 17. Strong enough that the uphills were easy and barely raised my breathing. Warm spring day and very light wind.

yeah, when I first latched on we turned north and had a slight tailwind. I was about 6th in line, cruising along and I looked down and we were doing 27+mph....and it felt pretty easy. Rotation was smooth, pace was high and it was simply awesome!! Never could have touched those speeds solo, even with the tailwind!

Going north, there were only about 4 of us doing most of the work....but then once we started heading south, more guys joined in and we probably had 8-9 guys in the rotation. Through and off, through and off. Heading north, we averaged 26.4 but heading south, even with the headwind, we averaged 27.2 because we had more guys working.

Ha, well apparently he’s on Facebook. I thought this was just a ghost from before my time.

Well for me it's going to be a while before I show my face at the Tuesday/Thursday Worlds (the Meridian ride for those familiar with this south Denver institution). Last year was hard enough getting shelled within 1 1/2 lap (there are about 10 per 1-hr session) and I was riding a lot, but this spring I barely have 500 miles, too much skiing and several pounds of Covid confinement fat on me that will not help.
