Question: my kid and his GF will go to Death Valley next week (they're quite adventurous for being 18!). To get back into Canada whey will need a PCR test result. They'll be in Sacramento Feb 25 and driving back into Canada Feb 27. So looking for recommendations to do a PCR test in Sacramento and getting electronic result within 24-48 hrs. Ideas on which pharmacies or other outlet to use? Thanks!

They do PCR tests at the Sacramento International Airport. Which is located on I-5 just outside of Sacramento. There are a couple other places, but you need an appointment. I did a google search and a few came up.

My parents live in Sacramento. They tell me that CVS (local drug store) offers PCR tests. Appointments can be scheduled online and results are next day. My parents traveled out of the US in December and used CVS for their tests. I believe Safeway also offers them through their pharmacies.

Sorry, I should have checked. Tests at Sac International Airport are for fliers only. There are other locations but you need an appointment beforehand...

Thanks guys. Great info.
My wife is very worried about this trip; I'm sure she won't sleep all of next week. For me their plans are a bit of a trip through memory lane. Was in Death Valley in 91. In fact when I read their plans to visit some hot springs near Mammoth I had this feeling of familiarity and low and behold last night I found an old photo of me soaking at same location with my GF at the time LOL. Mid-winter too, the surrounding landscape was snowy.

Don't forget that the tests are not free... I had to fly to France end of last year and the local "Urgent Care" clinic charged me $150.00 (hehe, there's money to be made!) while the hospital a mile up the road charged $80.00 (but couldn't guarantee 24-hr results). Tests to come back when I was in France cost 25 Euros at the pharmacy. Don't get me started on the US healthcare system.

Yup we know they cost a bundle around here.
And yes the one I did in Paris in November was 25 Euro. The only downside was being a foreigner I had to go manually pick up my result next day. Never needed a test inbound to France, just vaccination status and declaration on my honour of being negative.

I forgot how much it cost us for the PCR test when we left Iceland....but I wanna say it was ~$25. Results were e-mailed to us within a few hours.
We did have one interesting scenario that came out of it...one of my buddies was told by United that his result was rejected because his name did not match his passport. He was a "third" and did not have that suffix on his test result.
I had to get on the phone to Global Services and we managed to get him cleared eventually.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

So Canada is actually removing the PCR requirement the day after they planned to come back, end of this month. Staying an extra day and then just doing a rapid test is now on the table.
