One of the local coffee shops has a Saturday 8:00am ride.
Brisk but not a throw down, solid group of riders, 50+/- miles, route varies, usually lumpy.

One of my buddies brought a friend who would be doing his first group ride.
The guy is strong and kept up his end of the work.

17 miles or so into the ride he looked over at me and asked what I was showing for elevation.
He was at 1100' of climbing and said it's only 1300 total for the ride.
"Meters" I said, "it's 1300 meters. 85 kilometers long, 1300 meters of climb. We're 1/3 the way in with 1/3 of the elevation."

He looked like he'd been sucker punched.
Oh did we howl at that mistake LOL!

He said the last five miles he was just wanting it to be over.

Only in America.

You are completely wrong and your metric-centric elitism rears it's ugly head again.
Myanmar and Liberia aren't on the metric system so it could have happened there as well

Hahaha Dale

But do they have group rides in Liberia and Myanmar, or is it still Only in America?

There are two types of countries in the world...those that use the metric system and those that landed on the moon.

😝😝

(and don't get technical about it...just laugh! 🀣)

Yes.Β  We put our feet on the moon while the meters stayed on earth.

The computer system guiding the landing was programmed in SI hahaha. But they did hide that from public view on displays reports etc.

All those SI units came back to earth. Only the foot prints stayed. For now, the lunar people are spared of the confusion Dale's friend saw.

And while we're on this note (and because I just perused the Wikipedia space station site earlier), I am reminded of the space station exhibits at the 1988 World's Fair in OC's neighborhood. The US had an elaborate and expensive building and exhibit of a future station. Russia had a far cheaper and simpler exhibit. As I recall, just a full sized mock-up of the station orbiting overhead. I found that pretty funny.

Well the fact that they chose to hide use of SI units is good for a massive rolling laughter. So I obliged. I figured the technical part to be the fact that neither Myanmar or Liberia put anyone on the moon. Which BTW may have been filmed in a Hollywood studio hahaha.
