Simon Yates.  CN article on him not being selected for the Tour.

Groenewegen and Matthews lead hunt for stage wins

Look at that top tube.  Not very different from my mom's Raleigh of 60 years ago.  Or a run if the mill mixte.  They did keep the ancient concept of the proper handlebar tilt being parallel to the top tube!  (And that's probably cast in stone, what with integrated cockpits.)  The new stone age bikes?

Hmm in my memory women specific bikes had top tube and down tube essentially parallel. But that’s the Dutch bike step through variant made for ladies in dresses. Yates isn’t quite there yet but he’s getting closer.

Why does any helmet Yates wears look to be about 2 sizes too large? I thought it was just because of how Scott helmets were done at first, but even the new Giant helmets are, um, giant on his head. Totally out of proportion. Can you imagine how bad it would look if he was wearing a POC???!!!

I met him and his DS between training sessions a few years ago in Melegis, near Granada. He stepped off his bike for a cafe break, and it was just nuts how big his helmet was relative to the rest of him. He looked like he could be launched into space with what he had on.

Sadly, that's how helmets look on me.

My grandmother feared I was a mongoloid baby, and my mother still walks funny...

I purposely passed on Scott helmets in the last because of how ridiculously huge they looked on his head. LOL!!!

And I feel personally attacked by this thread, since I just got a Giant TCR “mixte”. 🤪

CK, I'm staying away from digital photography because I know where it will take me. I did photography in high school. Loved it. Had a Nikkormat and a 50mm f1.4. Best friends (twins) had Nikons, a wide angle, 135 f2.8 and a 300. We lent lenses to each other as needed. We all shot school sports. I did all out hockey games because I was the only kid with a lens and film fast enough. (Loved pushing Tri-X to whatever speed was needed to shoot at 1/1000 of a second.)

If I dip my hand in the new digital world, I'll be off again. And - I viewed the world around me as a photographer. I rather like just seeing the world as it is instead of framing everything I see and visualizing the darkroom work to get it to match my idea of what it should look like.

And to steer this back to bikes - modern wheels! Those deep black rims - visually from the side, MTB wheels. Same inside diameter. Same outside diameter. Same depth. They simply don't look either light or fast. The old wheels we used to ride and race looked the part. It was easy to believe that when you straddled one of those bikes it would feel like there was nothing under you. Blacked out Mustangs now, not an elegant 1960s Formula One. (I watched high end formulas - I doubt they were Ones - at Limerock, Conn. as a kid. They looked fun to drive! We were there to see my uncle race his more pedestrian Formula V but still a car with more appeal than the modern black.)
