Inferno, in a very different setting, I got to see a full grown male peregrine falcon from 2 feet away. A domesticated one, taken from the nest a few weeks old because it was hatched with a deformed foot and would have trouble fending for itself in the wild. What a stunning bird! Now I know why it appears on so many coats of arms. Not very big; it stood about a foot high, a lot smaller than the medium sized great horned owl it was displayed next to and a pip squeak compared to the turkey vulture. But by comparison the bald eagle looks big and ordinary.

Nice video; too bad the bird cam only got a few usable images; that thing made some crazy twists and turns making the downhiller look quite mundane.

A few years ago my brother and I were out mountain biking. We were crossing an old farm field and we came across a falconer and his apprentice. We stopped to chat with them. A very intriguing sport, Falconry. Ben, you're absolutely right. A falcon looks like the F1 car of nature.

they use falcons occasionally to scare the massive amounts of crows in the area of our office complex. It works when the falcons are here but then the crows return as they have for ages, this being their traditional roosting area.
