Good news.   It's been 3 weeks and he sounds coherent and has reasoning powers.  I walked out of the hospital at three weeks, but Dale sounds far ahead of where I was at the thinking level.  (I also had no physical complications beyond road rash and a broken collarbone whereas Dale had had extensive reconstructive surgery.)

He has always struck me as a class guy; when he rode with us in our club race, 1976 and in every piece I have ever read about him since.  Sounds like his kid, Peter, comes from the same mold.  I wish him lots of reserves of strength and patience.  He will need it.  If his recovery is anything like mine, the next half decade will be a real challenge.  The next two years will be a time looking like fast recovery to others while he will be gaining awareness that what he always had and took for granted is no longer and in fact may never be achievable.  I had to watch my lifelong dream disappear.  May he go through these years spiritually intact and be able to use the gifts he will receive from this experience to help others.

All power to Dale Stetina.  Knowing what is in front of him, if it were me, I'd be prayng NOT to live.  Once is enough.
