Took a few days to goof off out west-- wrestled a couple of grand boys that about wore me ragged but the thing that killed my legs was a 3.75 mile hike with 4100' elevation gain.

Actually the hike up was not the issue but going down... brutal if you're not used to it

I wasn't

What, no pics?

Actually, those telescoping hiking sticks are supposed to be especially handy on a descent, tho I have not tried them myself.

Question: what's with the 'dot' initial post? I have seen it from other posters also.

Cycling is non-weight bearing, so when you do some serious walking/hiking you are using muscles you are not used to using. I did some semi-serious walking a few years ago after I fractured my elbow. I was putting in around 4-5 miles a day/ My legs were chewed up for about a week. I still do some light walking in the late afternoon with my dog. Problem is my pooch is getting older and he can't do the long walks anymore. We are growing old together.

Curious why to first post with 'dot'? Kinda perplexed of the meaning of that...

The first post of thread all runs together-- you can't make a paragraph hence the throw away first post in the form of a dot or some other meaningless word

I normall hike with poles but didn't have them with me on this trip-- paying the price now.
