Eternal 2nd. 6 TDF podiums but never won. His last podium at age 40 in 1976. Took 2nd 2 years before 8 minutes behind Eddy Merckx's last win. Won the Vuelta in '64. Tour podiums 12 years apart. Impressive.
This is probably old news here, but I missed it.

Let's go easy on this "Eternal Second" thing with Ray-Ray. Dude had PLENTY of wins. Only thing he never won was LeTour.

Thanks, winterale. It''m happy to be wrong. I was searching Poulidor's age for the Horner Interview thread when I stumbled on his "recent death" and was suckered like a lot of others.

He better not be dead; I'm pretty sure he'll show on the Pla d'Adet next year.
His son in law had a bit of an eternal second reputation too.
