More than you wanted to know about Hopf Bifurcation. (Sorry, the end result is alcohol free but it is gluten free)

AKA shimmy.  The good news is that shimmy IS NOT unstable resonance.  It IS a stable equilibrium, just not a stable equilibrium most of us care for.  And if you drive a bike fast enough, you will see it.

I thought shimmy was driven by Motown.  What do I know?

Great, next thing you know they're gonna slap a VNE sticker on bikes (velocity not exceed) as they do on planes.

Interesting article and it brings back some memories on the same topic for cars (old TV shows on speed tests).

Very interesting read. I never heard of Bifurcation before reading that. I just want to be sure my bifurcation speed is like 150 kph just for a safety factor. I had a Vitus that as it aged got more and more shimmy prone until it got down to about 65 kph the bike became unrideable for me. The last time she shook so bad I cried. Fortunately for nothing. changed my route to avoid the hills on the way home.
