This is why I hate schitt like Twitter.....My BS alarm is going off BIG TIME. So lemme see if I have this correct - some cyclist put a vial in his jersey pocket before PR, loaded with different pills. During the race, he consumed said pills, but not by just swallowing them....no, he cracked open the capsules, ingested the contents and then put the capsule shells back in the vial. Remember, this was done DURING the race (not even mentioning the sections over cobbles). So some idiot posts this "vial" on Twitter and now it is suddenly "news" and people are actually testing the contents? How about some actual evidence that it came form one the racers....nah, fook that.

Cookson suggested via twitter for said samples to be tested before it even hit the "news"; in fact that Cookson request is part of the news :-) Apparently there's photographic evidence of vial dropping from riders jersey...apparently. I hear you on the whole twitter thing though. |

I've long stopped asking those kinda questions...over past years there's been some crazy stuff that's seen the light of day what I see is a guy possibly popping a few pills in hotel before heading off to start line, then going $4it what do I do with this vial, stuffing it in his jersey. it fits the crazy cyclist pattern :-) |

OC, that was my thought. If it is found in his room, or even just his hotel, that is a huge black mark on all of cycling. And there will a lot of effort to pin it down to the culprit to make everyone else look a little better. So better just to ride the race and dispose of this long after in some obscure place. And putting the used capsules back in the container? To keep it all together to ensure everything goes into that obscure disposal site. Wouldn't want one of those capsules being found in his room. Ricco did not slip into the peleton, did he? That sounds like something he might do. |

No one knows what is in the vial/bottle/what ever it is. Test product is all it says. The CN thread now has a claim that there is a picture series that is clear and shows the thing at some point. Ginsing pills anyone? |

the pain killer ibuprofen, the stimulant caffeine, quinine, which is thought to help prevent cramping, and theophylline, a substance found naturally in tea and cocoa that can treat asthma. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/no-banned-drugs-in-paris-roubaix-vial-found-by-fan |

Thanks for the followup. Not a hoax after all, but glad to hear there is nothing to it.

We don't know that it wasn't a hoax.....just that there was nothing illegal in the vial. See my posts above....who puts cracked capsules back in a vial? This could very well have been some prankster looking to get his 15 min of notoriety. |

CK, suppose you are a responsible rider, aware that you are representing your team and sponsor. You know that all the ingredients in your mix are legal. You also know that any vials, etc, if regularly left in hotel rooms will eventually be found and suspicion raised. Today you are running late. No time to get this stuff to the team bus. OK, it goes in my pocket and I will dispose of it later. No biggie. I don't see anything suspicious about this. Just doing what needs to be done. Ben |

The point I would make to CK is that the vial is the prank, why would a prankster go through the big effort of putting in the vial some of the legal ingredients typically used by racers? Seems a bit far fetched.
That aside, I understand there was pretty strong photographic evidence that the vial in fact fell from a rider's jersey. I am pretty sure the powers that be looked at those pics before deciding to analyze. Why would they analyze a vial that could have come from anywhere? |
