I dont know why but this whole thing was new to me -- LA's win I knew about but had no idea that it was widely thought that the last race was fixed. Turned out to be true. Shocker right? Anyobody here know anything about this/live thru it? So in 1993 Lance was around 20-21. Cheating already. I mean did any of his wins come fair and square? I didnt think I could think any worse of him. Apparently I was wrong.

Interesting was the amount of money paid to other riders and teams. After all is said and done and taxes etc, how much did LA and Och walk away with?

Such manuevering wasn't (and still isn't) that uncommon...especailly with big $$ on the line. Hell, Vino just recently bought himself the win at Liege....
With that kind of payout on the line, it made sense for them to reach out to the other teams and offer up a payout.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

I do recall a lot of eyebrows going up at the time within the sport, but also a lot of positive buzz for cycling in mainstream US sport coverage. It was a win-win, so we looked the other way.
It was a preview of coming attractions.

The issue isn't the buying-selling of races... that's common fare in racing. Here's the story and here's the felony--> Insurance fraud.

LSD I think you are so right. Really just looked the other way... Until we couldnt anymore
I guess it all makes sense. Buying races and sharing the winning purse. Assuming I had enough talent to get there, I dont think I'd last too long in the pro ranks of cycling = or any sport.

The only problem I has with this is that it's coming from the mouth of Lance Armstrong, who has a tendency not to tell the truth....I'd be a little skeptical...not saying it didn't happen, I'd need more facts...

Well, except tfor the fact that this has been reported adn confirmed by Stephen Swart and Roberto Gaggioli for years.....only new wrinkle is LA's assertion that Och orchestrated it. But I don't find that to be in anyway unbelievable.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Speaking of Gaggioli, anyone watching the world series?
Gagg's swung an impressive bat back in the day didn't he?
