The fact that he was caught training cyclists (veteran Gran Fondo riders; huhhh?) or his outfit?

Ughh, I don;t need a visual on that color scheme :-)

Dr. Ferrari was wearing a vintage US Postal jersey during his ride, with rainbow bands on the sleeves indicating the jersey could have belonged to Lance Armstrong. He also wore a Livestrong Giro helmet and pink and blue Lampre shorts.

"Dr. Ferrari seemed very surprised and impressed with my numbers. He asked how I was so good and had done so poorly in races. He told me that I had outperformed Lance Armstrong and the great Italian climber Francesco Casagrande on the climb."

LOL....even Ferrari was calling Danielson out on his racing performances back in the day!!

Aren't Gran Fondos "Unlimited" racing? The World tour is like Formula One, tightly controlled chassis and engine specs. (Minimum weight, seat/bar/brake lever restrictions, etc. Controls on engines - the bio passport, etc.) Gran Fondos are, as I understand it, completely free. No bike checks, no drug tests. Unlimited racing, therefore racing at it's best. So why wouldn't drivers/riders hire the best engine mechanic (probably ever)?

If I am wrong here about the GFs, I know I'll be corrected by the next post!

Some GF's do testing. As a matter if fact, the Cat III / IV guy who got busted a year or two ago tested positive at the NYCGF, not at a USAC event.
