When I saw the juniors rolling around on top end bikes with $2500.00 carbon tubulars and 53x39/ 12-25 gearing I though to myself, "Self, that's what happens when daddy is a triathlete with a boatload of cash to indulge the 14 year old and has limited USACycling experience."

Sure enough, after the race the USACycling official was walking with the first place kid to a flat area and heard him say "Roll out." …oops... I think there were five or six of them and none of them were legal.

Whadda bet next week they'll have junior gears?
Now if they can do something about their daddy's inability to stay right of the yellow line

'Cuz Masters' daddys don't have truckloads of cash, too?

That said, I wish I could find the pic of some kid at a race with Lightweight wheels and an aero lid while all the other kids are on mountain & BMX bikes.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Yes, but Master's daddy read the rule book so junior won't get DQ's on a technical equipment violation

That picture makes me laugh every time that I see it. It isn't just the boy with all of his accouterments...

It is little Suzy next to him with her ill-fitting helmet who has no idea what is about to happen.

And little Suzy will go home, play with her friends, have a snack and go about her happy childhood.

Spike, on the other hand, will get berated by his dad for not lapping the field, letting up on the gas at the end and for his failure to post up properly at the finish line.

Later in life he will go on to be a sales manager and become his old man yelling at sales guys for not hitting their quota for the month. Spike will spend an inordinate percentage of his income on booze, drugs and therapy.

at least he (or she) has the helmet on the correct direction. at that age i would have had it on backwards pretending i was a bird and trying to peck everyone.

I like it when rich dad buys a $10,000 road bike for himself and one for each of his kids because that cash flow makes my LBS/sponsor happy. Hopefully a few of the kids get hooked on the sport, and not too many of them end up like Spike in Dale's all too real story above.

I'm not sure, but this could be that kids dad.
