What a weekend. I arrived at the island to find it was tiny, just large enough for the house we were staying in and a moderate sized yard with towering pines. Woke Saturday to an amazing red sky over the mountains and we snarfed some food, hopped the boat to shore and climed on our bikes. The route ended up being 170 miles with about 13k of vertical. About 95% was on really nice surface and 5% kinda banged up. Great views. Very hilly the first 75 miles with two longer climbs and basically non-stop large rollers. After that, it was flat to gently rolling with a few larger inclines and two serious climbs, one about 10 miles from the end. Finished up, got back to the isalnd, huge dinner with drinks and loads of laughs with a crowd of about 15 (7 of us did the long route), followed a by a relaxing Sunday of swimming and hanging in the sun before going home. Awesome weekend. I will post some pictures later. Mine are just of the island but ride photos will be circulated soon I suspect.

Damn....170 miles? Impressive. How long did that take you, especially with all that climbing? Triple or compact?
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Sounds cool. You had time to stop and take pictures?!?
How'd you feel at the end of that ride? What was your longest training ride? This isn't the first time for this particular ride is it?
If you have any kind of map or route, i.e. google maps, I'd be interested in that.

170 miles is some distance; puts me to shame; I only did 200k last Sunday (125 miles).
Buf effectively untrained; so far my longest distance this year had been 79k. Still feeling it.

I had logged about 1,350 miles this season prior to the ride. Longest two rides were 96 and 97 miles but both were serious climbing days. Longest ride I have ever done was this same weekend last year I did 212. That was the 100-200 that Ted King and a couple buddies did a few years back which spawned the comment "I feel like I was hit by a dumptruck of awesome." So, I figured if I took it easy I would be okay.
I averaged 15.8 mph so obviously it was done at an endurance pace not worrying about time etc.
The route started in Bolton Landing and went north on Route 9N all the way to Westport where we got onto Route 22 for a brief stint, then on to County Road 80 (GREAT stretch!), eventually rejoining 22 in Essex. Stayed on 22 to where it joins with Route 9 (as opposed to 9N, the N not being a directional designation) and took that into Keesville. In Keesville, we got back on 9N but heading south this time, all the way to Keene where it joins with Route 73. We stayed on Route 73 (9N peels off after a short distance) south until it merges with and becomes Route 9 heading south. This stretch was gorgeous with one monster climb up the flank of Giant Mountain to a pond clled Chapel Pond before descending. Just lovely riding even when you are gritting your teeth on the climb. Took 9 south to the southern end of Schroon Lake where we got on Schroon River Road, whcih we took to County Road 11 heading east, back to 9N just a few miles outside of Bolton Landing to the end.
Still waiting for the pics from those that were clicking away.

I'll bump this one to top with a pic from my Sunday ride to Evan's Lake camp and back. After 90k, only a left turn and then 1.5k to the lake they said. But what a 1.5k, almost immediately we were greeted by a 20+% wall. This is a pic where things leveled out near top. One of the school buses ferrying kids/parents to camp broke down on the grade. On the way down I lost my water bottle on the bumpy gnarly decend.
