Bummer. Met him once in front of his shop. He was checking out my bike - custom frame from a small West Coast builder - and asked if he could ride it. I took it for a spin around the square in slacks and dress shoes and told me it was too steep and too pretty.

@Serotta. Nice story. Had a Pinarello back in the day (Columbus SL). Loved that bike. No way I could afford a name like that anymore.

@Nick. Never owned one myself. He wanted to build me one right then and there, but I did not have the $. I used to kick myself for not pulling the trigger, but I probably would have sold it at some point anyway.

@Serotta. I hear ya. I'm the opposite of a pack rat. I compulsively get rid of clutter. I've gotten rid of enough stuff to make the ultimate Super Record chromed seat stay, etc., etc. vintage bike. But I'm not really too upset. Stuff comes and goes...

I almost bought a pinarello in 1986 but I just couldn't get why it was $400.00 more than a Marinoni I did buy? Live and learn. My last 3 road bikes have been Colnagos and that is the bug I caught. never a regret but locally there seems to be more Pins than Nagos

Prolly not much difference. After my Pinarello (SL), I got a Marinoni (SL), and currently ride a Marinoni (Columbus aluminum). Lots o' coincidences!
