CK, do you have any splits for that first 9 miles or so of the run?

Impressive race but, as you know, room for improvement!

You must have some good stories to tell.

Don't be too disappointed. Those races are really complicated and hard to get right - even for experienced racers. Back in the early 90's I helped train a guy who went on to do a 9:25 @ IM Canada and it took him 4 trips there to finally put together the perfect race on the day.

I know you said you would not do any more IM's, but know that you're off to a good start if you change your mind.

CP, see below. Net - net: I started out way too fast. My fastest goal pace was 9:00 / mile and even 9:30 would have had me close to 11 hours after my swim / bike splits. But I had zero perception of how fast I was actually running. Lesson for the future - learn to run correctly w/o a Garmin!!

Total Split Time Total time Pace
3.7 mi 3.7 mi 37:32 7:29:14 10:08/mi
5.9 mi 2.2 mi 19:45 7:48:59 8:58/mi
8.8 mi 2.9 mi 22:50 8:11:49 7:52/mi
9.9 mi 1.1 mi 9:16 8:21:05 8:25/mi

Those splits included me executing a run / walk strategy, where I walked every aid station (about every mile) for one minute. Like I said....WAY too fast. Lesson learned.

S94, thanks. I'll probably give it another shot, but not next year. Gotta pay the family back for all the support and patience this year. . Next year is golf and just a few shorter races.

I know I have sub-11 in me....just gotta work out a few kinks now!

smokin' fast for a while there. Do you think the pace contributed to blisters? Does swimming contribute to blisters (I'm thinking about skin softening up from being in the water)? Just curious.

No, I think the blister was the result of walking vs. running. I *think*. Who knows....

I'll just add that I have been very happy for the Americans with Disabilities Act the last 2 days. Handicap Accessible ramps are a godspend right now.

The Wisconsin course is super easy to go out too fast on, the crowds are CRAZY!

How did you like the fans on the 3 sisters hills?

Fans were great out there....hell, everywhere on the course. Really is impressive the amount of support the community gives to the race.
