Poached from the Homepage at Slowtwitch....

We will no longer see the devil with the big trident run along cyclists in the Tour de France, Giro D'Italia or other big cycling events. Didi Senft, the 62-year old German cycling icon decided that it is time to call it quits. The German tabloid Bild reported that lack of sponsorship money and an ailing health was responsible for this decision. Well Didi, we will miss you and your antics at those big events.
Meh....I won't miss him. The act grew very thin over the last few years and he unfortunately spawned the trend of idiots dressing up and running alongside the riders for their TV moment. Unfortunately, his legacy will live on....

Yeah, read that also. He's been around since 1993. He started the crazy fan custome thing. Don't know if I will miss him, but he's been a fixture at TDF for 21 years.....

What does it say that someone has to "retire" from being a professional fan?

Skinny for the win!

Personally, "appropriateness" of that type of fan behavior is a matter of degree, both individually and communally. But most people are just too damn stupid or self centered to get it.

Lack of SPONSORSHIP?! WTF?! Ay, yay, yay.

Maybe the Redskin guys with the pig noses will "retire" next?

+1 People who do things that endanger the riders should be removed. Those horns could do serious damage.

I did see him at a US race and I think you are right it was Georgia. He was at Worlds in Hamilton too. Don't stand too close to him either.

When I was in college it was the end of the heyday of punk. It had become a caricature of itself. I was at one show where this mohawked dude seemed to be there for no other reason than to repeatedly stage dive every 30 seconds. The thing is, there was a small audience, and I was getting pretty sick of this dude landing on me. After a few times, I shifted and BAM, he hits the floor. No more stage diving. A little audience policing of runners could go a long way.

Hey, just thought of something. My eternal gratefulness if someone can (safely) lasso that football helmet guy. That would be funny.
