I will be dumbfounded if no charges are brought.

It's been a source of anger for me that there are laws about safety in construction zones, laws regarding moving left when police or emergency vehicles are in the right breakdown lane. "Hit a construction worker, $10,000 fine and two years in jail" signs abound but kill a cyclist and seldom are charges brought. How 'bout some equal protection under the law? |

I just ordered a Fly6… won't keep me from getting run over but at least my daughters might have a record to see who hit me if and when my time is up and can turn the evidence over to the DA. |

Too many stories like this...and way too many distracted/impaired drivers. I hope she does serious time. |

Society is too cavalier when it comes to driving caused fatalities. But as an activity, cycling is about on par with driving and walking when it comes to fatalities on a per trip basis. Motor cycles are an order of magnitude more dangerous, public transit an order of magnitude less. This is based on US numbers. In Europe cycling is considerably safer than in US but so is being a driver or pedestrian. The message is we shouldn't freak ourselves out by these stories in thinking cycling is somehow dangerous. |

wow, to me leaving the scene is the real crime here, been hit and left for dead with life threatening injuries myself, what the hell is wrong with some people? I hope they throw the book at her. I have to remind people here, that is a human being, somebody's dad, mom, brother, sister, daughter, or son on that bike!! |

This is so messed up its incredible. The woman's 'calling' and past are both just appalling when mixed up in this. Strange personal connection is that I GC'd a bunch of work on a house that overlooks the scene of this crime. |

Finally. Cripes a BAC of .22? That is HAMMERED DRUNK. And texting while driving. What a moron. I am glad the charge is up there. Too many times the charges seem to be some little slap on the wrist that is being performed out of some sense of "we had to do something over this outrage, heh, heh, heh." This seems an appropriate charge. Let's just hope she doesn't get a jury of rednecks that like to throw beer bottles at cyclists while driving. I also hope the prosecutor doesn't let her cop to some ridiculous low plea, especially given her past history. |
