This is an awesome writeup on the Fraser River Fuggitivi bike club that I am part of by one of our members. Also a shameless plug for our sponsors and for drinking beer. If you look close you can see my sorry ass and grey hair in a few of the pics.

You guys forgot the most important reason - BEER!

Was actually thinking about this yesterday, as a matter of fact. The best answer is "Get faster".

Up until this week, I have primarily been building volume w/o a lot of intensity. Did a tri last Sunday (finished 2nd in my Age Group, thankyouverymuch), but my power was lacking on the bike (only did 210w for 58', was hoping for at least 225w). Luckily, I am pretty aero, so I still had a good bike split (24 mph in VERY windy conditions) but it was a wakeup call.

Did 3 group rides this week and got a right asskicking everyday. But sitting there, grovelling to stay on wheels for 90-120 minutes is gonna do a whole helluva lot more for me than doing intervals inside on a trainer.

So many trigeeks prefer to ride their trainers, looking at their wattage than getting outside and doing a group ride. My legs are trashed today, but I know after a little recovery, this week is gonna pay off for me....

Definitely, while not advertised, that's part of it.

The Tuesday night ciimbing sessions are good for busting a lung. One of the guys, a Costa Rican transplant, is known as The Flash. Rides like Chaves. There's a few more like that, I am not even close to keeping up.

CK, OC's link referenced plenty of beer. I wouldn't worry about him or any new attendees.
