Well, not here here, I mean when it comes to road riding and passing the cycling bug on to next generation. I started chasing roadies on my dutch bike around the age of 15, and riding seriously at age 16. My kid, at least one of them, is now 15 and has taken on one of my old road bikes. He has a handful of rides under his belt in the last couple weeks and is quickly getting faster (as a trail runner his base condition already was superb) and learning new tricks. Starting to catch roadies on the local climbs, gunning for improvement on local strava segments. I actually have to work to ride alongside him on the climbs. He still sucks at descending but is also getting faster and more comfortable in that respect. He's hooked big time. The circle is complete. Time for the old guy to hang up the cleats?

My kid started going up hills faster than me at age 16 (I was late 40s then) and downhills a few years later. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Loving it LSD. We're both signed up for a hillclimb race this weekend. Cypress Challenge 13k cat2 or 1ish climb. Targeting 1hr based on his progression. Yes next year at 16 he'll be faster for sure.

CK LOL yes that's the likely scenario. I did do a ride the other week that had me seeing many stars mid day. Interestingly we passed a cemetary with unmarked graves near summit but those were mining related.

Hmm, Saturday turned out into not only his first proper Flandrien experience (torrential rain; gloves were required), it also turned into drop your dad in the final 2k of a Cat 1 climb day.

This is not going well, grumble.

My two kids are in their 30s, and they blow by me on any uphill. My grandson is 2-¾ years old, and I hope to ride a century with him.
