No fan of Bambi here. At best, deer are cute vermin. Disease vectors, the reason Lyme disease is now so widespread. And a random number generator-like major danger to two wheeled travelers, especially motorcyclists.
If the cyclists had been just a few feet further up the road the deer would have driven them into the oncoming car. Dead cyclists.
Here comes deer mating season ("the rut"), with associated especially dangerous deer behavior. |

Oh wait, I didn't realized at first that this was YOUR video! I thought you were just sharing it. Look at the deer's shadow in that screen-grab!! I still sympathize and feel sorry for the deer. Hopefully it was a quick death and didn't suffer much. It's true that deer can be a nuisance but only because we are here. |

Those antlers could have done some serious damage.... that screen grab looks fake. I know it's not but Donner staring up at the clouds looks surreal . |

lsd, calling deer "disease vectors" for carrying Lyme disease is a little unfair to them. I don't believe the American deer had any part in the importing of that disease from abroad. And their presence in large numbers near humans? Well we killed off all the wolves, bears and big cats. Most forest edges, their domain for millennia, are now are very close to human settlements. We do all this, then go out of our way to cultivate very tasty food for them in nicely manicured "gardens", often right at those forest edges. What I think we should do - bring back the predators. Teach young children about them and how to be careful outside. Acknowledge and accept that we humans aren't the only occupants of this planet. Ben |

Unfair? Sorry, did not mean to hurt their feelings. Hope none of you get Lyme disease, because modern medicine can’t diagnose it reliably and doesn’t really understand it. |

I recall a Category 4 field that has a deer jump into it back in 1998 at the Shakamak State Park RR. The pack was humming down the road and the deer got spooked and ran directly into it. My teammate's chest went right into the deer's head. Fortunately for him, no antlers but he landed on his face and also broke his wrist. A few other guys were really, really messed up. Deer can do some serious damage to a 2-ton metal vehicle. Imagine the carnage on a bike! |

PS, Ben that would not be enough for densely populaled areas where deer - and Lyme also prolific. You won’t see a wolf pack in a suburban cul de sac. Deer density is > 10x what it should be. |

Still recall the night time incident at UCSC campus where a driver came across a dead deer and an unconscious cyclist on the road. In Ontario I had a herd that was paralleling forest at some point take a sharp turn and head straight to me forcing a hard brake to avoid getting trampled. It went from hey that's cool to holy hell in seconds. |
