One of the finest 100 mile routes I've ever seen. These roads are all in my backyard and yet I saw some new single-lane paved roads today. Mid-60s and sunny made for really nice riding. http://www.strava.com/activities/84224063

My riding buddy did this Fondo. He took a beating on the climbs. A touch under prepared he was

I was sporting your Monsere T-shirt après ride.

It was a tough one: 100 miles with just over 10,000 of climbing.

Aww man...I appreciate it. Glad you are diggin' it.

I think I will be out for this next year. I am just getting back on the bike from my hand surgery. I have nothing close to 10k feet of climbing in my legs.

Did any local racers end up winning? No one from my team went.

I would say so. 8 out of the top 10 were local and the overall winner was from NCVC.

That said, 100 miles with 10,000 feet of climbing isn't the sweet spot for local road racers, a course that favored climbers who also have endurance. What is the average distance of a MABRA road race?

Usually 60 to 70 miles for a Cat 1/2 race. Around 50 for Cat 3 and Masters. So, yeah, the Gran Fondo was definitely pushing people's distance training levels.

From everything I heard, Jeremy Bishops GF drew a lot more MABRA racers. Guess everyone loves those gravel roads.
