That part of easy enough (the uphill) but the long false flat uphill slog back to Leadville in the mid-day heat almost killed me (.http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2844500) Ran out of H2O about 2 miles before hitting the finish and boy do you ever get dry mouth quickly in this climate. Too much for a wet coast boy like myself. Things got off to a good start, fast gradual downhill run to Twin Lakes throigh the Arkansas River headwaters in early morning fresh air. About 5 miles out of town I noticed by seat was slightly low (suspected seat post slippage). Fortunately I came across John from finishlinecycling.com who was taking a couple from Conneticut up Independence (met them yesterday at Mt Evans). He had allen keys in his van to fix the problem before the climb. John seems like a fun guy and clearly got a good gig going. The climb was easy enough as some here had said already; managed to put in some extra gas near the summit. Superfast downhill and then really fun rollers in the valley back to Twin Lakes. That's where the torture began. Only 25k back to Leadville but boy did it seem to last an eternity. And that seat came back down, fixed the problem in motel and gave it an extra bit of torque so hopefully problem solved for tomorrow.

Here's the next installment in my free tourism colorado promotion. Who's paying for my Vector bars and bananas?

That's funny huck, when I started this little adventure I was about 10lbs overweight (170 instead of 160 at 6') on account of not having ridden a bike since June 21 and doing a lot of eating and drinking with our Italian guests instead. In is interesting how much better recovery is when you don't have to work.

Yeah, I intentionally piled on some pounds over the Fall/Winter because I knew I would lose weight building the house - which has happened, and I am back to just 3 pounds above my normal with 5 weeks of building left for this phase ; )

The "construction" diet.

Getting some decent riding in, but need more breaks for recovery as the house stuff really wears me down.

OC, beautiful climb. Thanks for sharing photos. I've been crushed by that same stretch of road (Twin Lakes to Leadville). False flat for sure, seemingly guaranteed headwind. Glad you are having a great time in CO.

Great pics on your blog there Huck!

JRH2 - that about describes it. Today I woke up with really sore legs, three days of riding is starting to catch up. Last major ride day today. I've decided that Independence's lesser known cousin Cottonwood should be on the menu, with possibility of doing the west side dirt climb. Maybe park up top, descend to Taylor Lake and then ride back up. 50% of precip, last couple of days that has meant wet for sure.

Nice - I did that climb once and it was snowing on top. Did not stay around for long. Of course, it is Colorado, so it was 85 degrees in Aspen.

And today, driving back from Cottonwood Pass I saw I guy going through the exact same suffering I went through yesterday on the last miles into town. That false flat with headwind is killer.
