you guys are right, this race is different from the TdF. scrappier.
did anyone else see the camera motorcycle crash? it looked like a camera motorcycle ran into a pedestrian on stage 14 i think. he was following the 2 leaders at the time. everything was happening in italian but it sounded serious as they all got quiet for a few minutes.

That crash was painful to watch. The motorbike hit a race volunteer.
Here is a link to the
crash video is on YouTube
, be warned it is quick and shocking.
The victim is apparently in a medically-induced coma according to the #giro feed on twitter.
I have been following Nicholas Roche's Giro diary
(Stage 13 here)
and
(Stage 14 here)
. He chronicles that the motorbikes seem to be taking too many chances, following too close (even after receiving fines), giving unfair advantages, and just generally being bigger arseholes than in any other race he has participated in.
From my perspective on the couch, they look like they are doing the same job they always do...

Tuesday 5/27- amazing to watch. 70km to go and you're freezing your butt off, joy.

Is it just me, or are there way too many motorcycles weaving in and out of these guys.

i wonder when they will go to drones to film this stuff? some quadracopters for following the riders and one of those bigger ones for the large aerial views.
