I do agree AC is burning a lot of matches. I think he enjoyed giving Astana a bit of their own medicine today: ie pushing hard when Landa got caught behind a crash. Once he found he had a minute plus I guess he just decided why not try to keep it.

I can understand trying to save some in the tank for July but still he needs to win this race. Taking a minute on a stage when it wasnt expected is good strategy. All he has to do on the next two mountainn top stages is mark he rivals. He probably will attack but he doesnt have to. Still this is awfully good training for the Tour

He is riding angry. I think he is entirely focused on the Giro and he'll worry about the Tour later. I doubt that one day of attacking now will really jeopardize the Tour. I agree that he has so much in hand now that he can just follow wheels.

Its not dumb, its colourful and cycling needs it.

Smart is dull and doesn't create an engaged audience.

Either way I don't think it matters too much for Tour. The legs might feel it tomorrow but by time of Tour its only the overall 3 week effort of Giro that matters in which these kind of frivolities are just a blip.

it's been a clinic since the TT, then the puncture, and now AC is like "OK, you boys wanna throw down? Lets go, see what you got.
AC has totally separated the men from the boys, he's made Astana look silly after the trash talking by Tiralongo "we have some surprises in store for Alberto" Aru knew he was done way before he lucked out into the maglia rosa
Astana is playing kiddy games, and Alberto is playing for keeps

I loved the stage today. what fun to see Ryder and Contador working together. I guess we will always wonder what could have been viv a vis stage 4 time loss to Ryder but he has certainly demonstrated he is underrated and is 2012 victory was not a fluke. It certainly was a race where everything went perfect for Ryder, Ryder is the diesel and lacks punch but he puts out the watts and can do it a long time. his 3rd week capacity is really his ace.

well finally a relatively uneventful stage today -- Aru redeemed himself a bit. Was interesting to see that Landa controlled himself and didnt follow Aru when he went and of course Contador was brilliant to let Aru go. Rumor is that Landa wont be staying at Astana next year so he might have said screw it and gone for the win. Classy of him not to. And Ryder distinguished himself again. Up to 7th now. Pretty great. We'll see what happens on Sestriere tomorrow. Loving the Giro!

Tomorrow will suit Landa or AC, Finistere is a brute of a climb. Aru had trouble on the steeper bits today but because the climb overall was relatively gradual he managed to make it stick.

Hell of a climb today (stage 20). Dirt road to boot. Don't know what's up with those crazy fans. I could not put up with it myself....

OK -- part I done. Can he make it a double? Gonna be a tough ask I think. Better field in the tour for sure. Of course if he can do it then why not go for the triple, right Oleg? After all you are paying him a lot of money....
