In general I don't care for race radios, but ... if Froome takes an extended break to get his teammates back on board, the other DSs ought to be telling their teams to hammer it!

Stop with the radio thing already. it is not a remote control. Yes it takes less time for the DS to transmit tactical information but the other way is just so much more dangerous and creates a lot of safety issues in the front of the caravan and back of the pack. I spent 15 years in Commissaire cars at UCI races, and the biggest difference in racing was the change in doping. As the blood doping scaled back the riders were much less capable of driving a chase for an hour or more. More teams needed to go to the front such that some of the old cooperation between competing teams started to reappear. Radios have been a false problem promoted by people that just did not want to see the real problem. Even with that there is always the limit of radio range, where each team member is in the field and just how much energy they have left to chase. that last bit is where radios mattered simply because the DS says go does not mean the rider has the capacity to do it. lots more chases fail than succeed without help from other teams. There is nothing like having 4 or five sprinters teams racing to make the final, for fast chases. Lots of chases fail when only 1 team wants to chase.
Radios from my perspective made the race at the back much safer and manageable. it reduced the time for riders to get service, less time at the car when they got there and a lot less chaos. it also helped reduce the number of DS that want to drive up at the back to talk to their teams. Much less mixing of cars and riders. From the view of Comm 1 radios are one of the best tools to make this area safer.

I've never much believed in race radio argument.

Team size and possibly power meters is where it's at.
