Van Aert is happy to pass the batton of face palms to Alberto Bettiol.

Yes!, his realtime celebration was confusing for a few milliseconds. How could no one on the team know? Maybe they didn't tell the silver medalist that he was sprinting for second in order to keep his morale up for the finale? -Kinda embarrassing, but he was super gracious about his "misunderstanding" in the later interviews I could find. Just MO but he converted a face palm into a nice story and pat on the back.

I guess that Utah mountain biking and outbound training paid off.

Sagan's no fun. Now starting his celebration two bike lengths earlier would have generated far more media attention and made the race much more exciting. (And his second place would be remembered far longer than his win.)

But good on him. It's been a tough year for him physically. To pull off that first win with 2000m of climbing, nice! And suggests he still has a little of the fire in his belly. (He is after all, wealthy enough that he never has to sit on a bike seat again unless he has zero skill with money or serious issues.)

Au contraire, Sagan's appeal IS fun. Euro cycling can be bogged down in tradition etc. Fresh breezes are welcome here.

lsd, I was being facetious. Having fun with all those early and uninformed celebrations. Sagan's pretty smart. He does know how to ice the cake and doesn't screw it up very often.

Hey, I know what demographic I belong in....and it is definitely the geezer group.

Doesn't mean I wanna watch us race bikes, though...🤣

Yates & Kuss both out at TdS....a boring race just got more boring. 🥴🥴 ETA - the whole J-V team is out, bit just Kuss. COVID strokes again.

The pandemic strikes again. 17 DNS's, 9 confirmed COVID, 4 on J-V so that team is out. One or two of the remaining DNS's is fatigue, so COVID? Yesterday's heat exhaustion, COVID?

I'm thinking of the song with lyrics "in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the giant sleeps tonight". That giant isn't going away. All this "back to normal" - well let down the guard and the giant will steal a few more villagers. Things are getting better. Most of those afflicted will live (with the variations and drugs out there now). Still - wake up call.
