Who are you taking for the Vuelta this year ?

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar),
Joaquim Rodríguez (Katusha),
Vincenzo Nibali (Astana),
Michele Scarponi (Lampre-Merida),
Daniel Martin (Garmin-Sharp),
Chris Horner (RS)

Got a couple of guys on the list that would be their first time winning a GT. Nobody has more than one GT win I don't think.

Seems like a pretty tight race going in.

Horner has never once contended in a GT. not a single time.

There is no way he ever wins (or contends) in a GT @ 41. If he does, well.....you know.

My guess is Nibali.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Purito has got to be getting pretty antsy for the top step.

From that list, maybe Dan Martin. Alejandro usually gets close but no cigar, clean or not. Same with Basso, though the way he is talking like his power numbers must be quite good right now.

As much as I would like Horner to make the podium -- no way with as little time back on the bike as he's had. He has the engine and has recovery down...it is possible at 41. Need I remind you: "Hard work, sacrifice, and focus will never show up in tests"... lol. Ugh.

If not Martin, my guess would be some top lieutenant from one of those teams takes it, "surprised" by his own form.

My patriotic self would like Mollema too (will he be there?), but I expect to see a battle between Nibali and Dan Martin who is emerging as a true GC contender. Purito will probably show some fireworks too

Mollema's been 4th in Vuelta and has won the points jersey (pipping Purito I believe) which mean he can battle it out for the bonus seconds. The only real question is how he's recovered from Le Tour.

Fingers crossed but I think the combination of tons of uphill finishes with bonus seconds for grabs and the fact that there's a whole bunch of guys who can ride uphill fast and have a fast finish will make this a kick-ass Vuelta.

Kreuziger if he has anything left.

He was definitely stronger than Contador on most days.

For old times sake Popovych. God must be on his side otherwise he would have been excommunicated along with the rest of the old Postal guys.

Well, Nibili could spoil this thread IMO but it will be an exciting race to watch.
