Now, to shield yourself from the heat wearing a black jersey, simply wear a down vest under it. Problem solved. Ben

it's a proven fact that you go faster in black. except for shoes, which should be either white or silver. helmets can be any damn color you want, since they only protect your head.

OF, FWIW I used to live in south Texas. It's very sunny and hot there in the summer. A white helmet was way cooler, really the only way to go if you had a choice. Here in VA still better with white. Same for jerseys.

I have always found ventilation trumps color when it comes to helmets.

Well certainly for those formerly endowed with hair on top of their noogin, putting a dark coloured radiation sink on what's essentially a solar reflector should make some difference, mitigating effects of ventilation be damned.

I am totally bald and have been rocking a black helmets in the heat of DC for years. Never caused too much of an issue. I have had red/white helmets with bad ventilation that have literally been unbearable in the summer.
