Went for easy spins on both my TiCycles bikes. Hit 99,611 miles riding fixed and 99612 miles riding gears. Those distances are 5 and 6 miles past 4 laps around the equator, so 8 laps total.
In 777 more miles, I hit 200,000 miles which we think of as much more impressive, but miles are an artificial distance. So is 100,000. (Base 10. Any intelligent being would use base 12 where the basic unit divides cleanly by 3 and 4.) Laps around our planet ought to hold up as usable units another several million years.
I realized late last year that my fix gear miles were only about 2000 miles behind and that hitting the milestones on the same day wouldn't be hard. Actually had to catch up on gears this past week.

| Wow! I occasionally use Strava but most rides go unrecorded but I doubt I'm anywhere close to that. |

That is weird and geeky and cool all wrapped up into one. The cosmic alignment needed for this happen is impressive.
Any attempt by me to add up my mileage over the years would be a WAG with a huge margin of error. |

Impressive! I always track my rides, mostly because I want to compare with previous rides. It's just force of habit now.
OC, considering your consistency, your total would be pretty impressive too. |

Funny I was just about to post that I'd be anywhere between half (my really rough estimate of road miles) and fully Ben's distance with the biggest variable being all the time spent riding Dutch bikes starting when I was just a wee little boy riding to elementary school. I've basically commuted all my life. But until last couple years I really didn't track anything. So who knows and it doesn't matter, its about the experiences, not the numbers. |

OC, shouldn't Dutch bikes get you a bonus of some %? For that matter, fix gears are a real % harder but the conversion there isn't simple. Very little difference when the fix gear is geared right on flat ground but radically harder in the mountains unless you stop and change gears and those stops add an element of cost.

| I have about 100000 miles since 1985 at least. Somewhere in between the earth and the moon and no feed stop before the return voyage. I think I might have another 80 years to go the round trip. |
