Just posting a Thank You! to fellow foumites who share our love for pedaling on two wheels. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and similar to you all. I wish you safe travels, frequent tailwinds, light traffic, and dry trails in the upcoming year. |

Got on the bike and very quickly got the awakening to how little I've been riding. Elected to bail and just do 30 miles of flat. Then decided to ride to the base of the hill in case I changed my mind. Then part way up. Then - thanks OC - if I go to the top, even at this ridiculously slow pace, it will be a good start to a RondePDX and ultimate gravel year. Made it. Probably 45 miles. House is at 240' The top over 1600. The river I cross is lower than the house. Took enough out of me that I had to come home after Xmas dinner and take a nap! A great Christmas! Ciao! Ben |

Hope you keep the rubber side down. Happy New Year! Weather has been bitter cold with a headwind on the return ride home. Made my mileage goal for the year (5K). I rode 1000 miles more than last year, which is a surprise because of all the rain early in the year, plus I had hernia surgery back in Jan. Still cranking out the miles at age 76. Mental burnout is the hard part. I still love riding and buying new toys for my bikes...hope to ride off into the sunset. Life is good. |

25 miles 25 degrees
An hour and twenty minutes
Took a while for my feet to thaw out, rest of me did fine. Gear: Giro snow helmet (keeps the ears warm, not much air flow), balaclava, thermal bibs, tights, ShowersPass waterproof/ windproof socks, Giro shoes, LS thickish base layer, LS thermal jersey, cycling jacket, Pearl Izumi gloves. Masi road bike, carbon clinchers, 25mm Conti's. Broke a spoke 1/2 mile from the finish Needed a set of shoe covers and goggles (instead of glasses) |

Went out on the fat bike...about 26-28*. Had been spitting flurries and wintry mix since last night / most of the day, but nothing serious...except apparently on the trails. Went down twice in 3 miles....after the second one, road the roads home. Then jumped on the trainer for an hour...didn’t go down once!! Outdoor gear....thermal jacket, LS baselayer, med weight gloves w/ bar mitts, winter MTB shoes (w/ toe warmer packs), bib shorts, wool tights, skull cap and neck/face gaiter. |
