Well, Friday evening, only about 10 days after getting my new gravel bike, I was walking down a grassy hill that was damp with dew while wearing flip flops. Lets just say I heard the ankle bone break. Damn. Calling the orthopedist tomorrow to get a consult scheduled but for now flat out in a full cast with a fractured right distal fibula.
Apparently while I was under anesthesia for the bone setting I complained about not being able to go on my cancelled Italy bike trip.
Sigh.

Sorry about your injury. Truly, life ain't fair. That said, and apologies for the brutality, this thread would benefit from adding an x-ray image of your latest implanted fashion accessory. In other words, inquiring minds want some orthopedic hardware po*n. Arthrex? Some other vendor? Can we admire the carpenter's/ surgeon's skill? |

That sucks, thinline...heal quickly and well. The bike will be waiting for you when you are ready. And I think we all just learned more about LSD than we wanted to know. |

Not sure about hardware yet. I see an orthopedic doc tomorrow morning at 7:15. That's when I find out if it's just a reset and immobilize for several weeks followed by some PT or whether my ankle will look like Frankenstein's neck. Hoping for the former. Thanks, all. Keep riding. Apparently it's safer than walking! |

Haha - I came across some crazy mud the other day. We were descending at speed down hardpack gravel when suddenly the road turned into a really slick clay mud. I barely managed to keep it under control going through a turn avoiding going over cliff into Fraser Canyon. After a few episodes we started correlating the gnarly stretches with road signs "entering debris flow area" so at least we knew it was coming. Fun stuff. Safe, I don't know. But we survived. |

Well, if it makes you feel any better, looks like your trip would have been cancelled anyway.....the EU just banned travelers from the US due to our mismanagement of COVID19. |

I'm actually wondering how consistently enforced these bans are. Supposedly the US/Canada border is closed to non-essential travel but there's aplenty making it across https://vancouversun.com/news/hundreds-of-thousands-of-u-s-visitors-are-still-crossing-border-into-canada-each-week/wcm/7eb64f0e-b92b-4105-b1f1-ef79782e769e/ I was thinking about is last week. Saw a car ahead of me with a Kuat rack that looked really fancy. Then I noticed the Washington State plates and was wondering how come they were on this side of border when supposedly its closed. |

I'm actually wondering how consistently enforced these bans are. Dunno....but it seems like enforcing a ban when it pertains to air travel would be easier than trying to catch enforce a border that has multiple points of access.

The Canada ban on US citizens is much more tightly enforced in the east. |

Should have added that that note is based on motorcycle forums, which have lots of crossings and attempted crossings this time of year. In theory if you are headed straight to Alaska, they have to let you in. But it seems that a lot of those folks are actually headed to Banff and other Canadian tourist destinations. The RCMP fine the occasional offender. OTOH, if you want to visit Montreal, you won't get in. |

No. BC is quite concerned about its border because we have had the most successful response to Covid in all of North America while Washington situation is worrying. BC has been the province pushing first and hardest for continued border closure.
There’s a lot more crossings out east so probably more resources thrown at it. But your clarifying note may explain an interesting loophole. Hmm. |
