Carbon/Aluminum Frame. Carbon top and down tubes-lugged with Aluminum.
Removed from the 2007 model was the carbon seat tube, in exchange for an all-aluminum rear triangle. As well as a redesigned Ovalized top tube.
Cannondale says “Precision-bonded Six13 frame combines the raw efficiency of aluminum with the lightweight vibration damping of carbon fiber.”
Won Editor’s Choice for Best Enthusiast Road Bike by Bicycling magazine.
Retails for $1800 and weighs in at 19 lbs. with Ultegra components and Shimano WH_RS-10 wheelset
I was excited when I got my 2008 Cannondale Six13. It looked good in Jet Black and rode great, right out of the box. I used to ride a Cannondale CAAD4 back in the day and I remember loving how stiff and responsive it was. I was eager to try out the Six13. Set-up included SRAM Force components and Mavic Ksyrium wheelset.
The entire first week was like riding in a dream. It was stiff, comfortable, and took corners without leaving chicken strips. After the first week however, I could feel a difference in the stiffness. It felt like the entire frame went limp. I lowered the stem after I noticed the change and it helped a little with response but the feeling of the first week was gone. During races it felt very slow out the gate. Especially when responding to attacks.
Although the response and acceleration was lacking, the Six13 could ride for days. I did 3 or 4 of my top ten longest rides on this bike, in just 3 months. Probably the most comfortable frame I have ridden.
While I was anticipating the stiff and responsive ride I remembered from my previous CAAD4 experience, I got a scaled back version and a more comfortable ride. I would recommend this as a great touring or intro to racing road frame. When it comes to down and dirty edge of your seat racing you will be happier with a stiffer more responsive bicycle.
Strengths: Comfort, turns good, looks good (looks aren’t everything)
Weaknesses: Heavy at 18 to 19 lbs., the paint chips if you look at it funny.
