The United States Anti-Doping Agency has banned the 27 year old rider Juan Pablo Dotti for two years after he tested positive during the 2011 Tulsa Tough on June 12, 2011, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Argentinean rider, who lives in Duluth, Georgia, finished second in the Elite race on day three of the event but later tested positive for an anabolic agent and amphetamine. Both substances are banned under USADA and WADA rules.
The Aerocat team rider has accepted a two year sanction, backdated to August 13, 2011. All results and prizes obtained since June 12th have been taken away.
His previous career results include the Argentinean time trial championship, stage wins in the Vuelta Ciclista a Navarra, the Vuelta de San Juan, the Clasico Banfoande and the Vuelta a Uruguay. He also won the mountains competition in the latter, and took the overall classification in the 2010 Vuelta de San Juan.
Former US Pro Joe Papp commented on the matter on Twitter yesterday, possibly referring to the testimony he has given to USADA on doping cases. “Saddened but obv [obviously] not even the least bit surprised to see my former teammate & friend JP Dotti suspended for his doping. 1by1 all of my former "associates" & clients & enablers will be rolled-up, so why you'd continue to deceive w/ a straight face is beyond me.”
It is not clear if Papp implicated Dotti to USADA, or if the test carried out in June was simply related to the rider’s placing in the Tulsa Tough event.
