Italian one of the final refugees from Leopard Trek-RadioShack merger to find a team for 2012
Davide Viganò has become one of the last refugees from the Leopard Trek-RadioShack merger to find a team, as he confirmed his rumoured signing with Lampre-ISD. The 27-year-old Italian, who has spent the last year working for sprinters like compatriot Daniele Bennati at the Luxembourg team, will instead become one of the pilot fish for Alessandro ‘Ale-Jet’ Petacchi in the blue-fuchsia team.
"I am happy with this decision and at the same time I feel flattered to be part of a big club like Lampre,” said Viganò, according to tuttobiciweb.it. “In addition there is the high esteem in which Petacchi holds me, and for my part I effort to repay the faith "
As one who spends most of his time working toward the victory of his teammates, Viganò has just one victory to his name, which he took as a member of Leopard Trek in the opening team time trial of this year’s Vuelta a España. His best personal result this season was second place in the fifth stage of the Tour de Romandie, between Champagne and Geneva, where he was outsprinted by former Sky teammate Ben Swift.
Prior to his year at Leopard Trek Viganò rode for Team Sky in the British team’s opening season. Prior to this he spent a year at Fuji-Servetto [now Geox-TMC – ed], and three and a half at Quick Step, having made the move from Androni Giocattoli in the middle of 2005.
