The schedule has been announced for the London round of the 2011/12 Track World Cup, to be run between February 16th and 19th. The event, which will serve as a test event – as part of the London Prepares series – for the Olympic Games just a few months later, will be the first to take place on the brand new vélodrome, giving riders a chance to get a feel of the track ahead of the biggest event of the year.
Since there will be a high number of athletes, chasing Olympic qualification, an extra session has been added to the event on Thursday evening, which will serve as a qualification session for both men’s and women’s team pursuit.
Great Britain will doubtless be fielding one of its strongest teams for some time, with Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton looking to familiarise themselves with the new track, ahead of their both attempting to take three golds each in the Olympic Games.
Tickets for the event will go on sale tomorrow (Thursday November 17th) and are expected to be in high demand. Prices will range between £10 and £40, and will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
Tickets can be bought via ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.co.uk/londonpreparesseries) but, since it is a sponsor of the Olympic Games, only Visa cards will be accepted for payment.
