Milram captain Linus Gerdemann will lead his team in two races this weekend in Switzerland, where he now lives. On Saturday, the German ProTour team starts in the Gran Premio dell'Insubria. The next day, the Grand Prix di Lugano, another UCI 1.1 race, is on the agenda.
While the MILRAM riders around Gerald Ciolek and Servais Knaven will take on the two cobblestone Classics Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne this weekend, Linus Gerdemann will continue his preparation program in Switzerland, where he last year finished tenth. "Especially Sunday will be very challenging," Linus Gerdemann said. "The good weather expected this weekend will make both races fun. Apart from the results, the race weekend is a further part of our build-up for the season highlights."
In addition to Linus Gerdemann, Fabian Wegmann will help lead Team MILRAM in Lugano. Last week in the Tour du Haut Var he just missed his first season win, when he was caught as the last escapee shortly before the finish line in the first stage in southern France. "That was of course irritating," Wegmann said. "But it gives me more motivation. The courses of both races are good for us. I have trained well in the last few days and think that my form is right."
The GP Premio dell'Insubria runs on the Swiss-Italian border area between Lombardia and Tessin. The start on Saturday is the Italian city of Como, on the lake of the same name. The race takes the riders over 174 kilometers to the finish on the coast of the Lago di Lugano. The GP Lugano takes a 35.7 kilometer long circuit course, which must be ridden five times, before the finish is reached after 178.5 kilometers.
