Switzerland's Franco Marvulli and Belgium's Iljo Keisse stormed to a one lap victory in the closing minutes of the Sixday-Nights of Zurich, held over four nights at the Hallenstadion, in the Zurich suburb of Oerlikon.
The 33 year-old Marvulli is currently the most successful rider on the six day circuit with his fourth victory in Zurich putting him on 31 wins from 105 starts.
This was the fourth six day the pair has ridden together, but their first win after two second places.
Meanwhile, Keisse's total domination of the winter boards continues to roll on, after wins in the six days of Amsterdam and Grenoble in addition to the European Madison Championships.
It's probable that the Ghent six day would also have fallen to him, had he been allowed to ride - but the fall-out from his protracted battle with the UCi over a positive test ruled out his participation.
There was little doubt that the Swiss/Belgian duo would win in Zurich; they displayed dazzling form from the first night - but there was a surprise second place for home rider Silvan Dillier paired with Australian track specialist, Glenn O'Shea.
Dillier was meant to ride with compatriot and regular U23 six day partner Claudio Imhof; but Imhof went down with a stomach bug and had to scratch.
The final spot on the podium went to German stalwarts, Danilo Hondo and Robert Bartko.
A delighted Marvulli explained to VeloNation; 'I was sick for Amsterdam and second in Grenoble.
“I had good legs for Ghent but after four nights it became apparent we couldn't win, so I said to my partner, Christian Grasmann that I didn't want to go into the red - my head was already in Zurich.
“I think that approach paid off, Imhof rode hard in Ghent but may have paid the price with going out of this race sick. People have been saying that I'm not the rider I was…I think tonight proves otherwise.”
