Following the granting of 38 certificates of approval to rider agents by the UCI this year, a further opportunity will be given to those wishing to represent competitors in the peloton when the UCI organises a second exam early next year.
The examination will happen at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle on February 24th, and is linked to the introduction of new rules requiring those representing riders on UCI ProTeams and UCI Pro Continental squads to have UCI certification. The only exceptions are riders’ lawyers and relatives.
The aim of the move is to increase the professionalism of the agents and also to enable the UCI to regulate and monitor their activity. Once certification is granted, agents can apply for the necessary licences from their national federation.
On September 3rd the first exam was held at the WCC, from which 38 agents were approved. Their identities will be listed soon by the UCI on its website.
The exams can be taken in either English or French and will last three hours. Applicants will be tested on a range of subjects, including the UCI’s own rules.
