Fans turning up on a whim will find themselves turned away

zdenek stybarAnyone planning to turn up to Sunday’s Koksijde World cyclocross championships on a whim could find themselves disappointed, as it has been announced that there will be no tickets available on the day. The event, to held on the sandy course of the Duinencross World Cup, has already attracted higher than expected advance ticket sales, and so the decision has been taken not to sell them at the gate.

“The Community Board of Koksijde decided today at 11 a.m. that there will be no more tickets available for the WC Cyclocross on Sunday, 29th January, at the cash pays desks at all entrances to the trail,” reads a statement from the race organiser.

“People without ticket will not be admitted on Sunday,” it adds.

For those in the area that have yet to buy tickets for the event will still be able to get them, while stocks last, at the local Tourist Office [303 Zeelaan, Koksijde], at the NMBS railway station, or at the De Lijn bus and tram station. Tickets for Saturday, Sunday, or both days' races will continue to be on sale at the entrance gates to the venue on Saturday, but not on Sunday.

Organisers had originally expected crowds of around 30,000 for the main event on Sunday, which will see both the Elite Men’s and Women’s races contested. This has already been eclipsed by advance ticket sales of more than 32,000, with likely many more sold at approved retailers since.

Generally, even at events as big as the World championships, it is possible to buy tickets at kiosks on the gate right up to the last minute. The Koksijde event has become so popular though, that it is not possible this year.
