Showing the perfect balance between athletic focus and comic-hero distractions, US time trial champion Dave Zabriskie has talked about his life on and off the bike, and said that he is in perfect shape heading into the season.
The Garmin Barracuda rider is hours away from starting the first stage of the Tour de Langkawi, a 20.3 kilometre time trial that many are tipping him to ace.
“The goal is to win the race,” a relaxed Zabriskie said in a pre-race video interview carried out Friday. “I think Tommy D [2003 race winner Tom Danielson – ed.] is getting pretty excited about the little hills they have here, the Genting Highlands. I am excited tomorrow about the time trial, and I think we have a couple of guys who can get up there in the sprints. We should be competitive here..”
Aside from listing some cinematic marvels that he’s looking forward to seeing, Zabriskie has other plans on the horizon for 2012. He talks about what he says has been a perfect winter for him, with very good, progressive training putting him in possibly his best shape ever at this time of year.
“It’s been a super-produtive off season,” he said. “My training camp wasn’t two weeks – it was months of build, build, build…”
The video reveals more about Zabriskie’s form, season targets, chilled-out nature and celluloid viewing choices.
