A question mark exists over Bradley Wiggins’ racing programme in the coming weeks, with the Tour de France and Olympic time trial champion withdrawing from his next scheduled event, the upcoming Tour of Denmark.
Wiggins was expected to compete in the 2.HC ranked event, which begins next Wednesday August 22nd and runs for five days. Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish and seven other Team Sky riders are expected to line out in the event.
According to www.bbc.co.uk, the Wiggins is expected back in Lancashire on Sunday to host the inaugural "Ride with Brad Sportive”. It states that no decision has been made as to when he will compete again.
There were previous indications that Wiggins would ride the Tour of Britain, which begins on September 9th. It is not clear if that will still be the case.
Wiggins began competing this year in the Volta ao Algarve in mid February, clocking up his first win of the year in the time trial and taking third overall.
He went on to win the general classification in Paris-Nice, the Tour de Romandie, the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour de France, making his season thus far a very successful one.
He has had a busier programme than many riders in the bunch.
Wiggins is currently on holidays in Mallorca. The British press carried photographs yesterday of the rider apparently smoking, surprisingly.
The Briton currently leads the UCI WorldTour rankings with 601 points, almost 200 more than the 414 of Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha).
