Team Barloworld team manager Claudio Corti is disgusted with the behavior of Theo Bos, that brought down his rider Daryl Impey during the last kilometer of the Tour of Turkey.
“It’s evident that Impey’s crash has caused a significant loss to both the team and the ride,” Corti said.
“As well as the physical pain, Impey was unable to celebrate an important overall victory at the Tour of Turkey and now has two broken vertebra. It will take Daryl a long time to recover and he will not be able to take part in the Giro d’Italia and use the excellent form he has shown in recent weeks to obtain other results for the team"
When asked about Rabobank's Theo Bos Corti said, “I’m certain that the race judges will take the necessary disciplinary action and adequately sanction Theo Bos for what he did. If they do not, every director sportif will be able to tell their riders to use their hands to make room for themselves during sprints."
Daryl Impey remains in the hospital in Alanya, Turkey and is expected to be transferred to South Africa in the next couple of days.
Along with injuries to his face, Impey suffered from a deep cut to his upper lip and the loss of a tooth, and the crash caused the fracture of his first two lower back vertebra: L1 and L2.
He will have to stay on his back for some time and a special flight will arranged to allow him to stay in that position.
