Young rider had competed in Tour of Britain

Victor CabedoOne week after riding the Tour of Britain, Euskaltel Euskadi rider Victor Cabedo has sadly been killed during a training ride in the Castellón provence of Valencia. The 23 year old was riding on the road from Almedíjar to Castellnovo but was hit by a car.

The Basque rider rode with the Orbea continental squad in 2011, the feeder team of the Euskaltel Euskadi team. He showed early form when he was fourteenth in the Trofeo Inca, one of the Challenge Mallorca races, then went on to take fifth in the Klasika Primavera, win a stage in the Vuelta a Asturias and take a fine eighth in the Spanish championship.

His performances earned him a place in the World Tour, and he made his debut with the Euskaltel Euskadi team this year. His top results were 15th and 18th on stages of the Vuelta a Asturias. He was selected for the Giro d’Italia and completed his first Grand Tour.

Cabedo was selected for the Tour of Britain, but he withdrew on stage two due to illness. Sadly that would be the last race he would ride.

Our sympathies to his family, friends and team-mates on their loss.
