UCI satisfied with Russian team’s application after request for further information
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has confirmed the registration of RusVelo as a Professional Continental team for 2013. The Russian squad was created in 2012 at the second division level, but was not granted registration last month - when the UCI announced the final list of teams - because the UCI required further information.
At the time the UCI announced that RusVelo’s application will be considered again in January, providing the requested information was supplied, and is now apparently satisfied.
“The International Cycling Union (UCI) has announced that the UCI Licences Commission has today granted the team Rusvelo (RUS) registration as UCI Professional Continental Team (second division),” reads the UCI’s short statement.
At the time of its denial, the RusVelo team denied having been given the reasons by the UCI, and linked its own fate to that of compatriot Katusha, which was denied registration in the UCI WorldTour.
“The licensing commission of UCI didn't explained the reasons of this denial,” the team wrote on its Facebook page at the time. “The team didn't receive any pretensions and UCI didn't ask for any documents which could change this decision.
“The press-office of RusVelo considers the not-licensing of the team as a continuing story of Katusha team which has yet not received the license of WorldTour.”
The team's Facebook page now simply states: "We have got a license. More information coming soon."
The Katusha team still awaits its fate, as it takes its case for WorldTour status to the Court for Arbitration in Sport (CAS), but RusVelo’s all-Russian roster of rider is now free to seek invitations to the World’s biggest races.
