Having previously complained that he didn’t know if he would be riding the Tour de France or not, Thor Hushovd has now been told the BMC Racing Team’s decision on the riders who will be taking part.
However the multiple stage winner told TV2 that he wasn’t allowed to reveal the decision. “It will unfortunately be in a few days,” he said of the announcement.
It had been expected that the team lineup would be revealed on Thursday but that day came and went. Since then, Hushovd finished second to Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) in the Norwegian time trial championships.
That result is a welcome one for the former world champion, who has had a frustrating couple of seasons.
He was out of form for much of last year and while he has show some encouraging signs this year, including third, sixth, sixth and seventh on stages of the Tour of California and fourth on stage three of the Critérium du Dauphiné, he is not yet back to his best.
He will hope that the BMC Racing Team gives him a chance to prove himself in the Tour. Whether or not that happens will be revealed shortly.
The team has two general classification riders in Cadel Evans and Tejay van Garderen, and team selection will likely be influenced by that.
