The Danish Saxo bank team picked up several national championship jerseys over the weekend.
In their home race twelve riders lined up in the town of Sønderborg to defend Nicki Sørensen's win from last year. The 196 kilometer course around southern Denmark was controled by Saxo Bank riders eventually ending up in a break of three.
In the end, Matti Breschel proved to strong for Chris Anker Sørensen with Frank Høj finishing off the podium.
"Our plan was to make the race as hard as possible all the way through to the finish line. However, we did not expect the front group to last very long and Chris Anker Sørensen joined the leaders very late on the course. But of course I can only be happy to see three Team Saxo Bank riders on the podium. They did an amazing finale where Brian Vandborg loses due to the general tactical element of racing," said a happy Dan Frost after the championships.
In Norway Kurt-Asle Arvesen attacked with 10km to go soloing in to once again earn the right to wear his national colors, while in Luxembourg Andy Schleck did the same taking over the national champion's jersey from his older brother Frank. In Sweden Marcus Ljungqvist outsprinted Fredrik Ericsson to claim his jersey.
