Just over two weeks after the Movistar team announced that Gorka Izagirre would race with the squad in 2014, his brother Ion has also been brought on board.
The Basque talent had a solid first pro year in 2011, netting top 25 finishes in the Tour de Pologne, Tirreno-Adriatico and the GP Ouest France in Plouay.
His second season with Euskaltel Euskadi was better again, with Izagirre winning a stage of the Giro d’Italia plus the individual time trial in the Vuelta a Asturias. This year was also good, with the 24 year old leading the Tour de Pologne until the final day and finishing second overall behind Pieter Weening (Orica GreenEdge).
Izagirre was also fourth in the Santos Tour Down Under and second in the Spanish national road race championships.
The Movistar team has also announced that sprinter Fran Ventoso will remain on board for another year, his fourth in all for the team.
Although didn’t clock up a victory yet this year, he is an important rider on the team and one who should be able to take more wins in the future. He has notched up 25 career victories in all, plus over ten top ten placings this season.
