Two days after the Lampre Merida squad announced that its team base had been broken into and a very large quantity of bikes, equipment and two vehicles had been stolen, further details have been provided of the machines in question.
The WorldTour squad's supplier Merida has disclosed that 111 bikes were taken in the raid, with this figure giving an idea of the scale and cost of the losses.
The break-in occurred at the headquarters in Usmate Velate sometime between the evening of Saturday November 23rd and the morning of Monday, November 25th. The thieves broke a window, entered and then deactivated the alarm system.
The team said that the incident was a big blow to the squad. “The damage is enormous, both from a point of view of economics, and also of logistics, as the stolen bikes were ready to be delivered to the riders in the first meeting at Darfo Boario Terme and then used in the 2014 season.”
Lampre Merida has provided more specific details of the bicycles taken, with 31 Warp TT bikes, 36 Scultura models, thirty Reacto Evo machines and fourteen Ride Pro bikes being lost to the team.
It has provided frame numbers and sizing details for the bikes, and has appealed for help from anyone with information.
In addition to those, a number of Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 11 speed electronic groupsets were taken, along with sets of Fulcrum carbon wheels, Selle San Marco and Prologo saddles, SRM and Rotor measuring systems (the latter with Garmin computers), spare parts and a mechanics van plus a team car.
The theft follows several other robberies this year, although these happened at races. Teams hit include Garmin-Sharp, RadioShack Leopard, Europcar and Synergy Baku, plus the Russian and Danish national teams at the world championships.
