Top ranked team makes changes for 2014

Alejandro ValverdeSwitching clothing suppliers and also frame providers, the Movistar team has unveiled its new kit and bicycles on the first day of 2014.

The Spanish WorldTour team, which featured riders such as Tour de France runner-up Nairo Quintana, 2013 world road race champion Rui Costa and Vuelta a España podium finisher Alejandro Valverde, has changed suppliers for both.

Clothing is now being manufactured by the Scottish company Endura, which worked with the NetApp Endura team in 2013. The new jersey includes so-called Coldblack technology to reduce the heat absorption from the sun, thus counteracting the dark blue of the kit, while the shorts include what Endura terms the 800 CVP series variable thickness chamois.

It and the team have also been working in the windtunnel, exploring variations to the skinsuits and the aero shoe covers that it says the team will use in time trials. “Endura is confident that more speed can be unleashed with the prototype developments that are already in the test schedule over the coming months,” it claims.

The colours of the 2013 top ranked WorldTour team remain the same, with subtle variations to logo placement.

The team’s change in bike suppliers sees it move from previous partners Pinarello to Canyon, which had itself been working with Katusha in recent seasons.

The German manufacturer will supply two type of frames for road race stages, namely the Aeroad and the Ultimate, while the riders will use the Speedmax machine in time trials. They will be fitted out with Campagnolo's Super Record EPS groupset.
